What should I know about my first lesson?
Lessons are 30 minutes long, and are taught either in the barn aisle or large outdoor ring, depending on conditions and student comfort. As lessons may be outdoors, please be prepared for sun exposure and warm or cool weather exposure. We recommend students wear long pants and closed toed shoes or boots (with minimal tread) for comfort and safety. Riding pants and boots preferable. Equestrian specific helmets are recommended, Bennett Farms can provide upon request if you do not have your own. For first time lessons, all clients or client guardians must fill out the Bennett Farms safety release form (available the Barn). Do I need my own horse for a lesson?
No, if you are not a horse owner Bennett Farms has lesson horses available that can be used for your lesson. If you do have your own horse boarding at the Equestrian Center, our trainers will be happy to instruct you on your own horse.
Can I volunteer at Bennett Farms?
For safety and liability reasons, and to ensure consistent oversight of our horses, we are not accepting volunteer work at this time.
Are there age requirements for a lesson?
While the CDC recommends practicing social distancing, Bennett Farms can offer lessons to clients aged 10 years and above. Our Bennett Farms instructors must remain in close proximity to younger clients while on horseback to ensure safety during their lesson, so we are temporarily unable to provide these lessons to those younger than 10.
